Hello lovely You. I’m Ellie, a true lover of food and its connection to health and happiness. For as long as I can remember I have  naturally gravitated towards the kitchen. Loving nothing more than getting a   bit experimental; I am forever dreaming up weird and wonderful recipes that allow my family and I to enjoy tasty food that does not contain wheat, gluten, dairy or refined sugar. I am exceptionally passionate about living a nourishing life, and love supporting others who want to do the same.

Since co-founding Happy Kitchen over 4 years ago, I’ve been creating all sorts of delectable sweet and savoury foods that are entirely free from eggs, wheat, gluten, dairy, and refined sugar. Happy Kitchen has proven so popular our 4 brownie flavours are now available in 3 countries!

I have become more inspired in the kitchen to create delicious food for families like mine since the arrival of my adorable daughter Macy. Like most families we have our own health issues to overcome; my partner has Ulcerative Colitis and I have Systemic Candida, both of which have greatly improved since choosing the right foods and regular sessions of Acupuncture. Thankfully our daughter Macy is the healthiest chatterbox around. I believe this is largely because of my unwavering dedication in providing our family with medicinal food which is fundamental when travelling on the path to genuine health and wellbeing.

My daughter Macy is a pretty magical little being. She may only have been in my life for three years, but what she and the whole experience has taught me is immeasurable. In a society that seems to be overrun with medication, antibiotics, vaccines, wheat, sugar and a culture of fear (to name but a few!), it is extremely hard to know as a parent, what the “right” choices are to make for your children. I have always explored and researched advice given in great depth, challenged things I’ve felt not to be in line with my beliefs and always looked for the natural ways to support her growth and development. It does take time and devotion, but for me, Macy is the proof that it is time well spent. One of the most effective ways to support her has been though food.

Food plays a vital role in healing the body and the maintenance of health, yet much of the world seems to be cut off from its powers. Food can lift you up, make you smile, and heal that fabulous body of yours. Food is an integral part of our lives and vital for living, yet much of what we eat does not offer our bodies anything worthwhile. I know from experience how it feels to be lacking in energy and vitality, and sometimes even I break my stint of healthy living, and find my head buried in a box of chocolates I was “saving for visitors”. Living a nourishing life is a continuous commitment, and I hope by sharing mine and my families authentic experiences, we can build a community to inspire, encourage and support each other on this exciting (yet sometimes bloody frustrating) path to health and happiness.

p.s I am blessed to have a partner Mr D, who is, unlike me, not happy to eat something just because its healthy or gives you some vague super powers. He likes his nourishing food to taste as good, if not better than its rivals. If it doesn’t pass the “Mr. D” test, then its back to the kitchen I go to make improvements until it does pass the test!

    I am so excited to discover your blog. Love it. I am currently doing an Access course in Nutrition and have chosen Candida as the topic for my research project. Is there any books or sites you could possibly recommend for me to look at. ( It is not exactly a recognised category in the Biology department at the British Library :) )
    Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

      Thanks for taking the time to read my blog. I am so happy it will continue to offer you info to help with your research project. Candida and Systemic Candida is not really understood by enough people, or western medicine really! So many people suffer with it without even knowing that there is a diagnosis for it. It is ace that you have chosen to study it in more detail, I am sure you will be able to help many folk who suffer with it get back on the path to healthiness. Nutrition plays such a huge part in overcoming it too. I am about to write another post on my journey with it so far, I am sure this will have plenty of information on books read, specialists seen, my understanding based on my experiences of living with it for so long etc. I began by looking at http://www.thecandidadiet.com, and then have seen acupuncturists, nutritionists and read more books on chinese medicine and how Eastern medicine treats Candida. All fascinating. My favourite book has to be “Healing With Wholefoods” by Paul Pitchford. It is my bible for everything. If I remember more of what I have done then I will let you know, but I promise an in depth post in the very near future!
